Elements of the design emphasise Finnishness in ways passengers will recognise immediately as having just arrived in Finland. Materials important for Finnish construction are visible throughout the terminal. The desire to bring nature into the space has been further realised in the form of a large diorama called Luoto.

    Alvar Aalto designed the building at Tiilimäki 20 in Munkkiniemi as his own office in 1955. A visit to Studio Aalto is a fascinating immersion into the world of Aalto's architecture, design and personal history, but at the same time it is an architectural experience of space and the building itself. Bathed in natural light and decorated with Aalto furniture, this unique studio was the setting where Aalto and his architects designed a number of famous buildings. Studio Aalto can only be visited by joining a guided tour.

    In 1936, Alvar Aalto’s series of glass vases won first prize in the 1936 Karhula-Iittala Glass Design Competition. Compared to the decorative objects of the time, the simple yet organic shape of this vase was a revolutionary statement. Inspired by waves (“aalto” in Finnish) in the water, the vase is a symbol of Finnish design and one of the most famous glass objects in the world. Each and every vase in the Alvar Aalto Collection continues to be mouth blown at the Iittala factory and comes in a wide range of colors and sizes. The Collection is a staple of modern Scandinavian design and Iittala’s most iconic series. Additional items inspired by Aalto and created by Pentagon Design such as steel bowls, wooden platters and votives can also be found in the Alvar Aalto Collection.
